Puerto
Quetzal, Guatemala
Coastal Systems International, Inc., in conjunction
with EcoPlan, prepared a master plan for this waterfront
development that featured a cruise ship arrival area
and a new 32-slip marina. Plans for phase I
of the marina basin included dredging and floating
docks
to accommodate the two meter tide. Marina utilities
designs for water and electrical services and landscape
plans were prepared, along with other architectural
features, for the cruise ship arrival area.
Floating
docks consisting of aluminum structural elements and
polyethylene floats were selected not only due to the
2m tidal range, but also for ease of deployment
and rapid construction. IPE wood decking was specified.
Full construction management services were provided
through Coastal Systems’ design/build subsidiary
for the completion of a turnkey project within four
months of master plan approval.
