The country of Guatemala is ideally situated in Central
America. Guatemala’s unique culture and diversity
of landscapes, which include breathtaking mountains, impressive
volcanoes, extraordinary lakes, and abundant vegetation,
make it an ideal tourist destination. The objective of
this project is to transform a military base and industrial
port into a premiere cruise ship destination, including
an arrival plaza, waterfront park, museums, botanical
gardens and beaches. Coastal
Systems International, Inc performed in-depth site evaluation,
master planning, and a combination of marketing, branding,
excursion and tourist research. Once completed, the
project will have enormous economic, social and ecologic
benefits, providing new jobs, substantial revenue, and
enhanced protection of the adjacent Puerto Izabal conservation
district. The District will include a tourism focused
commercial and cultural center adjacent to the terminal
with a secondary ecological boundary containing botanical
gardens, wetlands and a primary forest.
